Hello! and welcome to my about page. My name is Sateen and I am a fashion designer based out of Brooklyn NY. My work and my vibe are all about the grunge and the glam. I love fashion history, I’ve studied it all my life and love to mix & match historical references in my clothes. As much as I love old school elegance, I also love to juxtapose it with the chaos of real life. The only thing better then designer perfume is using it to cover the scent of your last joint, and thats the vibe I love to capture. Thats why the minute a friend told me they’d be wrestling in a kiddie pool full of beans I said I’d make a custom all white look designed to get fucked. (see Jae’s Twinks v. Dolls look)
I decided I would be a fashion designer when I was around seven years old. I started keeping a sketchbook full of princess-y designs and learning how to sew. I grew up a Navy brat, moving from boring suburbia to boring suburbia where there wasn’t much fashion so I started making costumes and getting into local theatre. By the time I was graduating high school I had taken over the costume and hair/makeup departments of 3 surrounding schools in addition to my high school. I also designed and made my own prom dress. (and now my sisters, see “Ruby’s Gown”)
The plan was always to be in New York, so after high school I moved to Brooklyn and went to Pratt Institute (Class of ‘21) to study fashion design. In my freshman year, I premiered my first collection titled “Romantic Nostalgia” on the runway at NYU’s Fashion Business Association’s spring student runway show. After doing my senior thesis collection during COVID, I graduated and began working at Mood fabrics where I eventually took over the leather/furs section. My current day job is with Lindsey Thornburg keeping her garment district atelier running. I love making custom work so feel free to reach out!
Currently I am working on a collection about my upbringing in an all american military family, and hope to stage a diy-punk style runway show when its complete :)
