About

Sateen is a 24 year old fashion designer and illustrator based out of Brooklyn, New York. She primarily focuses on designing fun, hyper-feminine, grunge fashion. Sateen premiered her first collection titled “Romantic Nostalgia” in 2018 during her freshman year at Pratt Institute in NYU’s Fashion Business Association’s Spring Fashion Show, featuring 8 looks made in under 2 months. Outside of her design work Sateen is also a practiced illustrator, with drawings published in Polyester Magazine, and experience as a freelance illustrator for various brands. No matter what it is Sateen is working on, no one has ever accused her of being a minimalist.

Sateen decided she wanted to be a fashion designer at the age of 7 and immediately started teaching herself to sketch and developed a love for studying fashion history. She started taking sewing lessons at 10 and was making her own prom dress by high school. Since there isn't much fashion in suburban Maryland, Sateen leaned hard into theater. She began with taking over her high school's hair and makeup team, then quickly after taking over the costume department. Eventually she was running the costume department's of 3 other schools in the area as well. In order to cut budget costs Sateen began teaching herself how to make patterns so she could more easily instruct the parent volunteers on how to make her designs.

In 2019 she interned for designer Julie Mollo, helping design glittery bags, and illustrating promotional stickers for the brand. That fall she went to London to spend a semester studying at Central Saint Martins. Right after she came home, a Global Pandemic. During COVID Sateen started an online shop to pass the time in quarantine, selling masks, up-cycled clothes, and stickers. After graduating Pratt in 2021 she worked at Mood Fabrics running the Leather/fur department, where she stayed and cut yards until she began working at Lindsey Thornburg. She is currently helping production run smoothly as Production Assistant.  Sateen plans to one day open her own brand and hopes to gain a breadth of experience in the fashion industry before doing so.
